The Internet has evolved to become a way for others to connect, communicate, and spend time interacting with their favorite content. Many of us, including children, spend our downtime on the Internet. While it can have its benefits, the Internet can be harmful to those who are unaware of the risks involved with frequent Internet usage.
Here are some tips to ensure your child’s safety when they use the Internet:
- Set clear limits of the time of day and duration they use the Internet.
- Manage privacy settings and block unsafe content through their device settings.
- Encourage the use of devices in the same room as an adult at home.
- View any content (websites, apps, videos, and games) prior to giving access to your child.
While these are just a few examples of how to encourage safe Internet use, there are many more resources available to caregivers. Please feel free to reach out to your child’s BCBA or their teacher for more information or tips on how to utilize the Internet safely at home.
